Painting Eggs

It was with a huge smile that Nathaniel watched his youngest daughter painting Easter eggs for the very first time. Even creatures such as he have the capacity to dress up in a pink bunny onesie. He happily shares the day with his dear friend, Solsty and Fallon's mum, Harmony.

Special thanks to Solsty for setting this day up, Harmony being a great mum, and to my beloved daughter, Fallon... Daddy loves you.

Homecoming

I was asked recently to take part in something that to me seemed a little radical at first. Anyone following Harmony Sandalphon in her weird, often wonderful but always glamorous life, might know she has currently managed to get herself into Junior year at Edgewood Prep-school.

It was my honour to accompany her to the school's very own Homecoming dance... and how many of us got to take one of the cheerleaders to a dance?

Family

Nothing means more to me than family. They are the one's who will be there for you when all else has failed. I can say that even though my daughter is grown and flown she will always be my little princess. So having her be away, even for a short period of time, has really made me miss moments like these and remind me how much I love her..
We may be divorced... technicality, whatever. You are a dear friend to me and family, always. Harm, you're practically a sister to me now.

To my daughter MiCaelyn and my er... ex-wife Harmony. Thank you.

Without a Path to Follow

Walking through the streets of the city, people walk by. Alone, in pairs, in groups, all of them are heading somewhere to do something. Some of them are probably of to some sort of job, others could be shopping for this or that. Not him, he walks with no purpose towards an unset destination. If he wanted he could be half a world away, the path ahead isn't so much a path but a completely open field. The only direction he cannot go is backwards.
He leans against a bus stop and just watches everyone else take their paths, a smirk slowly spreads on his face as he thinks of the possibilities that the people around him could only imagine. The smile fades as he also remembers that this freedom comes at a price.

A Hard Day

Nathaniel slammed the front door behind him, walking slowly through the darkened hallway to the kitchen. The dull light from the evening served as sufficient illumination. He opened one of the cupboards, picking up a glass tumbler and an old looking bottle of scotch.
The bottle came down hard and Nathaniel stood up straight, running the fingers of both hands through his hair from front to back. He leaned against the kitchen counter, looking at the empty glass and full bottle before slowly unscrewing the cap and pouring the amber liquid generously into the glass.
He moved away from the counter, slowly passing back through the hall to climb the stairs. Reaching the top floor, his hand rests on the top post as he turns to walk along the landing. Entering his room, the last light of the evening pours in through the window, casting light across his bed.
Nathaniel sits on the edge of his bed, resting his elbows on his knees and allowing his hands to hang almost freely. His head hangs low. He swirls the glass of scotch before taking a long sip. He places the glass on the side table and lays back on the bed, his arms covering his head as he stares up at the ceiling. The events of the day play out in his head and he sighs in frustration. That could have all gone better.

Dirt Track

The engine roars as the rear wheels spin and slide through the dirt, kicking up gravel and sand. He spins the steering wheel into opposite lock, easing off the throttle just a little. The corner ends and his foot goes flat. Dirt flies backward from as the the power bursts through the transmission. The suspension irons out some of the bumps but the track dips and bobs.
With a flick of the steering and a yank on the handbrake, the car spins and almost disappears in a swirl of dirt and flying gravel, coming to rest pointing back down the road.
The door opens and he steps out. Walking to the front of the car and dropping to sit and lean, letting the rush soak through him.

Skatepark

"You know, you're pretty awesome with that thing... Kinda make me feel old watching you."
"I wanna see you have a go."
"Pfft... I wouldn't. Sure, I might get the hang of it but... the idea of being let loose at high speed with something made out of potentially lots of sharp pieces of wood? No thanks."
She giggles lightly. "You're silly. C'mon, it's fun. I'll show ya!"

Special thanks to Bella for taking part in this. Always fun, kiddo.

Lazy Days, Catching Rays

It's not often it happens these days but I do enjoy just relaxing and feeling the sun on my skin. I'd not been able to do it for such a long time that I will never take it for granted again. Lying here I can hear the waves lap against the sand, the breeze flicking past my ear and the heartbeat to my right.

It's warm, and every now and then I rest my hand on her skin to feel if she is burning. That is the most work I have to do all day and it's wonderful.
